At the 2022 Hanover Fair Schaeffl er s Industrial division unveiled several new develop ments in the fi eld of automa tion For lightweight robots and cobots the company present ed new main bearings gear boxes and fully integrated sen sor systems For instance with our solutions package cobots can be up to 50 percent fast er or haul respectively heavier loads For sensitivity we off er an innovative concept our sen sor based precision strain wave gears As a result it will be pos sible to develop other fi elds of application explains Ralf Moseberg Senior Vice Pres ident Industrial Automation at Schaeffl er The technolo gy group has the requisite pro duction capacities and quali ty management for medium and larger volume production and everything else that s needed to cover the future demand for system components for light weight robots For industrial robots Schaeffl er presented a portfolio of preci sion planetary gear units of the PSC series Compared to the market standard it s character ized by ten times lower torsion al backlash and three times lon ger service life In addition the precision planetary gear units feature wear compensation that keeps the units extremely low torsional backlash at constant levels Such major develop ment leaps are very rare and an opportunity for industri al robotics to overcome previ ous barriers says Moseberg To strategically strengthen the company in this area Schaeffl er acquired Melior Motion GmbH now Schaeffl er Ultra Preci sion Drives GmbH at the begin ning of the year The manufac turer of precision gearboxes for industrial robots is one of the innovation drivers in this fi eld and with its products enables high precision positioning and repeat accuracy of robots com bined with particularly long life cycles For Schaeffl er robot ics as a whole including large industrial robots is a fi eld with major growth potential Robotic innovations by Schaeffler Schaeffl er s sensor based precision strain wave gears for cobots have been developed for challenging particularly dynamic applications with high torque levels Schaeffl er s motors of the UPRS series off er less installation space lower weight higher torque density and 80 percent higher revolutions per minute on average compared to drive systems commonly used in the marketplace Schaeffl er is now off ering precision strain wave gears and precision planetary gears pictured for buckling arm robots for all axes and payloads from just a few kilograms to more than 100 kg 220 lbs 15 ROBOTICS
